Please come to Minnesota Center for Book Arts for one or both of the folding happy hour parties where we will be folding the 2000 book that were printed as part of Northern Spark.
294 people held hands with a stranger for a piece of pie at MCBA as part of Northern Spark. Only 706 more people to go.
The Call and Answer Project was an epic success on the evening of June 4th into the wee hours of June 5th. We are so honored to be part of the the first year Northern Spark! We reached all our goals and went far beyond. In one evening we served over 400 pieces of pie in two hours, printed 2000 books, had close to 50 amazing volunteers who did everything from bake pie, photograph, cut pie, make coffee, run a letter press, greet people at the door, read their poetry, play in the band, and call a square dance! I think about 1,500 people came through the doors of the Minnesota Center for Book Arts and at least 500 strangers held hands!!!! If you missed out do not worry there are more dates coming up! Please check out the events page!

Artist Amanda Lovelee, creator of the Call and Answer Project (a documentary about square dancing, hand holding and connecting and Colin Harris, coordinator of Open Streets/.urban planner/fiddle player, will discuss their Manual on How to Activate Space. This project explores how space is turned into place, how we can use existing urban resources and creating the conditions for more spontaneous exchange between strangers. We’ll also make manuals and we’re hopeful that Colin will play the fiddle. Check in out and come join in. It will be much more then a talk with a supply list of 4 typewriters, 4 12 packs of beer, over 40 homemade cookies, not sure how many handmade books and 1 fiddle!
We were mentioned on the Walkers blog-
An amazing night! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Footage coming soon!
Today we had a production meeting at the Walker Art Center with Alex Bowes, Kyle Waites, Ann Carter and I. We go to walk around the wet cold Open Field imagining just where Ann would call from, where Alex could shot from, and where would be the best place for a square dance! Time is moving fast. Getting very excited about the fall dance! Now just working on getting a fire truck to show up so Alex can shoot about the dance!
